On our first full day at Playa Cativo, we were scheduled for a boat tour. Of course, we spotted a sea turtle on our way to Cativo Lodge yesterday. I thought that might be the highlight of our ocean animals, but nope. As we headed out, our guide mentioned the different dolphins we might see. He said that they usually see at least a dolphin. When he pointed out into the water, I thought we were seeing fish jumping. It was hundreds of Pacific Spotted dolphins jumping & swimming across the water. I have never seen anything like it. The dolphins could jump so high! Then, not to be outdone, we came across a mother humpback whale and her two babies. We boated toward her & then stopped to drift. Because of the direction of the current and the whales’ location, we actually drifted so close that our driver & guide said we needed to move away because they did not want to get so close. They were very respectful of the whales & the dolphins we encountered, and we appreciated that. We were so lucky to see all those amazing animals. And, we ended the day with a swim in the pool & an amazing sunset! Oh yeah, and a large rodent & a basilisk…
