A Short Hike to the Farm & Another Long, Steep, Hot, Amazing Hike

Cativo Lodge, where we are staying, has its own a organic farm to produce many of the herbs and eggs that are part of our meals while we are there. We went on a hike that led us through the forest, past leaf cutter ants and wild boar, all the way to the little farm. When we got to the farm we were greeted by Walter. Walter, who cares for the plants and animals at the farm, greeted us with some amazing coconut, mango, guava, and pineapple. He prepared all of this for us with his machete. When Murphy was two shy to hold a chicken, Walter gave him an egg that he carried all the way back to the kitchen and gave to the chef. The next morning the chef scrambled the egg up for Murphy and he ate it for breakfast. Murphy said it was the best egg he’s ever had.

Our next hike took us deep into the forest and over a ridge. We saw bats, white face monkeys, many kinds of plants, black & white beetles, leaf cutter ants, and a baby boa constrictor. This was an incredibly hot, three hour hike. The terrain was very steep. We all looked like we had just gotten out of the shower even though it was our own sweat. I have never wipe so much sweat out of my eyes. But, it was incredibly worth it!

Murphy was a little concerned about the three hour hike, but did amazingly well.
